Fanning says...

Hi punks!!!!

Did you guys miss me? It feels so long since i last blogged. Here I am, back to save you guys from an overdose of Frayon's nonsense. Uh huh. I have strapped Frayon to a chair with a gag in his mouth. PEACE! ON EARTH!

Anyways, TP at the moment is as quiet as the insides of Frayon's head. The students are having exams/schools holidays!!! To those coming in as year one, HOW EXCITING! Please remember us and come back to say hi. As violent as I may be to most people, deep deep down I am actually a kind and nice girl. Really. I don't usually attack Frayon that often, only when he is alive.

Ahem.

Next week will be a hectic week! Expect coverage of events from the Business and Design school, and more. Oh oh, and look out punks, we are bringing you someone NEW. Hyuk Hyuk. Stay tuned!

Appeals Results + Enrolment Package + Lingo Dictionary: FRESHIE

HOT NEWS HOT NEWS!

JAE Appeal Results will be out today at 2pm at the JAE website . Log in and see if you can find your appeals results.

For all successful applicants to Temasek Polytechnic, you should be able to receive your enrolment package by 13 March. Note that date on your calendar!

And to mark the occasion, we're introducing another Polytechnic-ish term to everyone!

WORD OF THE WEEK -
"FRESHIE"

Freshie (fresh.ee) [noun] -
The informal, more personal version of "freshman", freshie refers to all 1st year students of Temasek Polytechnic (also avoids any sexist views, like, "why got freshman but no freshwoman?!"). The term "freshie" is used most often by Student Leaders, especially during orientation.

As an example, freshies look like this:

And not like this:

Yes, I know that looks like Fanning.

Transitions

The JAE Appeals Exercise is finally over!

This is particularly significant not only because of the exercise itself, but it's also the last poly exercise for O level students. This means that at long last the O levels journey is finally coming to an end.

All of us here at the tp4me team are really really looking forward to seeing all the new students coming into TP this year. For those waiting for appeals to enter TP, all the best! After the many many many projects we have been part of like TPRAWKS!!, Open House and Beyond O Level Seminar, we can only hope that we've been a part of the reason that you've joined Temasek Polytechnic!

Our blog will be going through an "uplift" soon. Do spread the word about tp4me to all your friends who're interested to enter TP!

And now, we'd like to take the time to say heartfelt goodbye to one of our tp4me blog team members, Dumdum!

(that's Dumdum on the right. Girl on the left is her best friend!)

Dumdum has been with us since TPRAWKS!! '07, salivating over guys and swooning over their muscles. Hahaha... I believe she'll even be in Beijing very close to the Olympics (power la Dumdum). Anyway she'll still be popping by the blog every so often, and if you happen to see her on the streets be sure to say hi!

DUMDUM. You better log on to MSN often you bimbo. We'll miss you!

Most of you must have received your SMS notifications by now. For those of you who managed to get into the course of your choice, congratulations! We'll see you in TP really soon! Be prepared for Orientation when we come after you all with cameras, hahaha!

Now, for those who are appealing, the JAE Appeal page on the official JAE website is up.

Basically you can select up to 3 courses to appeal to. Chances of appeal success depends on:
  1. Cut Off Points (COP)
  2. Available places
  3. Who else appeals
I have included the COP for TP at the end of this post.

IMPORTANT - Temasek Polytechnic is holding JAE Appeal Advisement sessions! If you want to know best how your chances are for appealing to certain courses and other related information, it's best that you come down to TP personally to speak to our counsellors.

Asher's TP Journey

TOMORROW ARE THE JAE RESULTS!!

For those of you who are getting into TP, here's Asher with a preview on what life in TP is like!

LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU GUYS HERE!! And for those who didn't get in, don't worry, we'll provide details on the appeal processes tomorrow.

------
Hello boys and girls! This is my first post to the tp4me blog and I'm so excited about sharing with you my TP journey so far!! For those of you who don't remember me, I'm Asher, one of the panellists at the Beyond O Level Seminar. Here's a little caricature of myself to refresh your memory...

Anyway, so far it has been a fun ride here at TP and at the Diploma in Communications and Media Management (we just call it CMM for short. It's easier anyway). During the past year alone, I got to meet many interesting individuals such as Ministers:

for those of you who don't know, thats the Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports; Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan.

the Minister for Finance and Education, Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

And I even got to go to the Istana and meet the President!!!

Well, how did I get to meet all these important people? I had the immense opportunity to represent TP at the annual Pre-University Seminar 2007. It was a gathering of JC and Poly students, most of them bright young thinkers who could be the our country's future leaders! It was a fantastic time just to meet people from diverse backgrounds. Amazing...

I also got a chance to represent TP at Polytechnic Forum 2007, where we got to go on a cruise and what an experience it was!

This is me with some of the people I was with onboard SuperStar Virgo! It was a great time of fun and relaxation where we all made plenty of new friends.

But this year also brought on the fun subjects in school! I got to learn this amazing subject called Multi-Camera Production, which is basically how to produce a TV show. I find it amazing because like many of you, I'm a huge TV junkie and my dad would always tell me: "Asher if there was ever a subject on TV, you'd score an A". True enough, I've been scoring As ever since.

But let me give you a sneak peek into what our studio looks like...

I took this with my handphone camera. anyway, this is only one section of our studios, known as MediaBiz Studios. If you managed to come down for our studio tours, you would have found that MediaBiz Studios come complete with audio editing suites, video editing workstations, a TV studio and a radio studio and tons more. It is like a maze in there.

But yeap, that's what I've been up to for the past year! Looks like I've written alot so have fun reading and am looking forward to hearing your comments on the tag board!!!! Will be back soon with another picture loaded post! =)

Hi punks!!

Guess who's backkkkk.. (other then me. duh.)

----------------------------------------

Okay people, Augustine blogging again! Right, so we are coming to the end of the semester already and I suppose everyone (yes, including me) is gonna be starting to prepare for their papers and all that. But for those of us in Year 2, next semester will be our attachment, also known as SIP (Student Internship Program).

For me, SIP is something I'm actually looking forward to, and here's why. I do actually want to do RADIO for my attachment at MediaCorp Radio, or maybe get a job at YellowBox Productions, which is this recording company that does soundtracks for shows, trailers, movies, jingles for radio and stuff. See, just this semester, I've developed a liking for radio and audio production (maybe cos I'm a guitarist), so music and audio engineering in that sense really appeals to me and its something I enjoy.

Yes, besides taking photos, I play the guitar as well as deejay. So these are some of the MANY things I like to do. Now back to SIP, I'd really love if I got an internship with a photography studio as well. Its really cool when you get to take high-fashion photographs and really captivating portraits. Oh yes, and I'm actually gonna take part in some international photo competitions, so please pray and hope I'll win something along the way. HAHA.

Well that's a short update for you guys. I'll be back again soon!
------------------------------------
That was Augustine, TP's current student in the Communications and Media Management course.
.
Stay around as we bring you more accounts from current TP students! Oh and dear punks, because we love you so, do email us if you have any request for an account from any particular diploma!

Fanning

Love is in the air...!

Exams are around the corner here in TP, but even exams can't stop the overwhelming feeling of luuuurve that's saturating our campus.

Okay. I might be exaggerating. But only a little bit. I mean, even the Diploma in Leisure and Resort Management Board is now a message board for Valentines'.

LET'S ZOOM IN AND TAKE A CLOSER LOOK!

Then there were the free roses from the Business Studies Club:

Other students were wrapping roses for $5:

And among some of the sweetest things we spotted in TP the entire cohort of Visual Communications year-1s getting free gifts that were individually labelled!

And of course, the push-cart stalls of TP were all up and ready for the important business of spreading love around:

So how did YOU guys spend your Valentines' Day? If you have pictures, send them over to us at furiouscrayon@gmail.com, and we might just put them up!

HAPPY VALENTINES' DAY EVERYONE!

Singing to Hady

Disclaimer - This is Fanning's fault I'm putting this up so late.

There was something I didn't mention the last time we put up the Hady Mirza post.

SOMEONE SUNG A DUET WITH HADY DURING HIS CONCERT!

And she (and her sister) has graciously given us her blog link where she put up not just details of the event but videos too!

And as a quick preview...

Thanks very much to the Taqinah and Nursha for the links!

Polytechnic Lingo Dictionary - EXTRA

Aw man, the long weekend is over. =( Well, at least there's the income we got from Ang Bao collection, mwahaha! Time to buy myself a new pair of shades.

So anyway, we were taking a look at the people who visit our blog, and discovered that there were 4 visitors from GERMANY. 0_o ... Hello there! Erm, Guten Morgen! (I believe that means "good morning"!).

So in celebration of our international visitations, we've decided to put together a list of very "Poly-ish" terms. Sometimes you hear the way poly students talk, you'd think they have their own lingo and language.

WELL IT'S TRUE. Announcing our Polytechnic Lingo Dictionary!

WORD OF THE WEEK -
"EXTRA"

Extra (ek.strah) [adjective] -
  • When referring to an OBJECT: something that is unnecessary, either by its very nature or what it's being used for. For example:

    • "Eh don't put your bag there leh, people find it difficultt to walk past the door! So extra!" or

    • "You buy that book for what, so extra! You don't even read!"

  • When referring to a PERSON: someone that did something really unnecessary, lame or obvious. It's quite a versatile word for people, really. For example:

    • "Eh they're going on a date, you want to join them for what? Don't extra lah!" or

    • "Eh, the tutor ask us to raise one hand, you raise both and wave so hard, why so extra??" or

    • "Fanning you very extra leh!"
The important thing to note is the facial expression when you say it. I managed to get Dumdum to pose for a classic "Oi you very extra leh" shot.

Heh. Heh. Heh.
