Welcoming Freshies Week!

Hi Punks. Here I was, being at peace with myself when I bumped into this bustling scene.
WHAT'S GOING ON!
After much barging around, I realised it is an event planned by the Business Studies Club from the 28th to 30th April. Apparently, these kind souls want to welcome their dear business freshies by providing a vibrant environment in TP.
These students from the Business Studies Club are selling candies and other form of sweet delights. No Frayon, for the millionth time you are not under this category. Pfft. Not only did they think of satisfying the freshie's sweet tooth, they came up with this!
The guy you see above? He is a TP graduate who came back just to help out. This proves that once you enter TP, the spirit of TP stays in your blood. FOR. LIFE. Muahaha.

Ahem.

So punks, we (excluding Frayon) being kind souls as well have decided to dedicate this week to welcoming our beloved freshies! We will be interviewing random year 1 students and posting it up here. Therefore, write in to us at furiouscrayon@gmail.com if you want to share your experiences during your first couple of weeks here at TP!

We WANT to hear from you guys soon.

Solid as Bone,

Fanning

CCA Fair

Hellooooo! I'm back after a long long long while. It's now Week 1 and rest assured, we here in the office are still gathering all the pictures and video clips of your orientation to put it up and show the world how much fun all of you had!

This week being Week 1, our beloved SAA has organized the annual CCA Fair which runs from 23 to 25 April 2008 to get all you Freshies to sign up for a CCA in school. So here I was walking around trying to absorb all the sights and sounds of the CCA fair (since the last one I was around for was in 2006) and lo and behold, there were hotties galore! Seriously, there are a lot of good looking people here in TP! I am not kidding! *gushes*

Ok coming back to reality, the CCA Fair was jam packed with performances by the various arts groups and there was even a martial arts display! The girls were SCARY! Now I know who are those I cannot anger for fear of losing my life to. *cringes*

But as they say, pictures paint a thousand words so here are some pictures for you guys. Don't forget to check out the booths over the next two days and maybe sign up for a CCA too!

Attack of the Freshies! (FOC)

Frayon: Thanks for the heads up on the no. of empires guys, I've made the amendment =D.

Hallooo all! Oh my, I am already smelling potential riots coming up from our tagboard...

nik: yeah! we want FOC we want FOC ;D
mayfen: how long more that this blog will update about FOC?

... Sorry to keep you waiting guys! I had trouble settling Fanning and Frayon down since the last post you see.

*arrows fly out of nowhere*

Eh, Fanning, no poaching of birds in Singapore. I am PROTECTED.

All rights, let's begin the post of the day. Proudly presenting... The highlights of Freshman Orientation Camp (FOC) 2008!!

Students learning hand signals.

Venos Flag.

Photobucket

Phantos Flag

As similar to FOW, the freshies were divided into the five empires. To announce the empire's arrival. To scare other empires. And most importantly, to CHEER and flaunt your own empire, having a nice flag is a MUST! With limited resources and materials, the different empires came up with their own flags respectively. Just look at the fantastic designs they came up with, a round of applause for these freshies!

Hmmms... after Fanning and Frayon's tutorial earlier on, I bet you guys roughly know how the TP Mass Dance goes. So for now, let's hand over the stage to the freshies. Its... Showtime!

Photobucket

Give it all dudes!

Photobucket

Shake-shake`

Photobucket

Woah, i wouldn't want to be stuck in the middle for sure.

Now that we are done with dancing, how about some games to spice up the whole orientation? Here goes, watch out for those shiny, jingling... Water Bombs!

Photobucket

it's one for all people, let's get wet together.

Photobucket

AHHH! There's the water bomb!

Photobucket

Hang on!

With such a hot weather and so many water bombs flying around, who's complaining? In fact, I would love to be splashed on. (that is if i had an extra set of clothings.) Maybe i can suggest holding some wet gaming activities for our webteam. Or maybe even better, how about getting Frayon and Fanning to give us a tutorial on wet games this time?!

Frayon: SURE THING, IT'S GOING TO BE SO MUCH FUN!

Fanning: No.

...

Well, The three days passed and went along with tremendous bonding and new-found friendships. With so much fun and laughters going on, it's hard to say goodbye to our sporty freshies and GLs. really.

Photobucket

Till the next time.

On a note, the webteam would like to give credits and express a heartfelt thank-you to the Visual Central for their hard work in taking these amazing shots. Your hard work and efforts are very much appreciated, Thank you again!

The rest of the photos are on our Photobucket account here!

Attack of the Freshies - Freshman Orientation Camp Mass Dance!

Hello all! The big events are now happening in TP. How could I miss out on all the fun during the orientation?

Come on, let’s have a look at one of the highlights during the Freshmen Orientation Camp. (FOC)

MASS DANCE

EXCLUSIVE!
For those who missed out on the mass dance, don’t worry. Humming Bird will be nice and show you a step-by-step tutorial. Here goes:

1st: Get a partner of the opposite sex.
Photobucket

Frayon: You should be grateful you get me as a partner, Fanning.
Fanning: I'd rather dip myself in lava.
Humming bird: Come on, do it for the freshies guys!

2nd: Hold your hands together.
Photobucket

Frayon: You should be grateful you get to hold my h-
Fanning: SHUT. UP.

3rd: Do a big hoo-ha with your partner while running forward.
Photobucket

Frayon: ARGH SHE'S CRUSHING MY HAND.
Fanning: Wimp.

4th: Stop for a smacking hi-5 action that goes; “Open Open, Close Close, Open Open Close Close”.
Photobucket
Photobucket

Frayon: Hey, that was fun!

5th: Repeat the 3rd step and 4th step, only this time running backwards

Photobucket

Frayon: Fanninggggg!! Wait for me!!

6th: Do the big wave thing or simply give the ‘*shrugs* I don’t know action’
Photobucket

7th: Play the usual cherry cherry long jiam pas. Ahem. aka scissors, paper, stone.
Photobucket
(Only the girls get to win no matter who the winner is.)

Frayon: What!? I demand a rematch!
Fanning: *sly, evil grin*
Frayon: ... Why are you grinning like that?

8th: The winner gets to slap the loser.

Frayon: Wait, the winner gets to WHAT?!

Photobucket

Fanning: HEHEHE. Ahem. Punks, you just have to fake the slap.

Frayon: And she says it only now

9th: Move like a crab to the back, make a turn and “Raawwwr!” at the person next to your partner.

Frayon: That shouldn’t be a problem for Fanning.

10th: Stick a Hi-five to your partner and repeat in turns around each other.
Photobucket

11th: Hook one of your arms around your partners and start the Merry-Go-Round.
Photobucket

Fanning: This is the first and last time I'm hooking arms with you, Frayon.
Frayon: So... many... stars...

12th: Repeat step 9th then 4th.

13th: End with a dash to the front and then to the back at your fastest speed. Photobucket

Frayon: Ahhhh! They are coming!
Fanning: ... Coward.

------

That ended the tutorial for TP Mass Dance folks. Hope you guys learned something out of it. For peeps who are interested in knowing the song title of the dance, it is actually “new age girl”. We have been using this song for years and it’s so nostalgic. I bet this tutorial is going to be useful for this week’s schools’ orientation. So, have fun practising it at home! Mary Moon~~~

JAM AND HOP

Another highlight of the FOW was Jam and Hop on the second day. It was the night of fun at dancing in our very own Sports Complex. Although everyone was pretty exhausted with the games in the day, Jam and Hop certainly freshens them up. All Freshies and GLs come together for a rocking good time! Photos will be uploaded pretty soon. Do send us yours to tp4me08@gmail.com. We want them too!

Welcome Serangoon Secondary! (:

We had visitors!!! Guess who they are and you’ll get a prize! (: errr wait….I’ve already told you in my blog title so no prizes! *wahahahahaha* Well, as seen from the title, they are from Serangoon Secondary *duh* and they are in Secondary 4 and 5.

The lecturers took time from their busy schedules to give these students a very special tour of the business school. The first stop was Kelly Services Center or affectionately known as KS to all HR students. All year 2 HR students have to spend at least 8 sessions there. It seems a little like internship but you only have to do this once a week.

*explanations about KS to students*

Second stop...Brand Hub. The lecturer gave the students a brief introduction on marketing and the experiences of some students who went on a study trip to Hong Kong!

*Lecturer: How would you market this bottle of water to a potential client?*

*students: erm...*
*Lecturer: Come on, get your creative juices working! ;)*

This was followed by the visit to the Electronic Business Center (EBC). Some students here share about what they have learnt in their Diploma in Business IT.

*Q & A Session*

The last stop was at the Library.

And we ended off with refreshments for the students.

Till next time :)

Attack of the Freshies: FOW

Helloooo

I’m back from the orientation workshop to bring you updates!!! Hot off the press! *haha* so anyway, I’ve been following the workshop extremely closely by either tagging along with one of the empires and acting as if I’m one of the freshies or asking the group leaders (GL) or Yue Wen (one of the programmers for FOW) tons of questions.

For those of you who don’t know how FOW works, I’m here to explain (:
Step 1: Freshies sign up for FOW
Step 2: Freshies are broken into five empires (Venos, Accion, Komez, Fyrhto & Phantos) randomly
Step 3: Freshies stick to the same empire throughout the entire workshop to play games and do activities to earn points
Step 4: The Empire with the most points win :D
Step 5: Freshies go home at the end of the workshop, acquainted with one another and feeling happy that they have participated in one of the best orientation in their life. (:

*Freshies + GLs = Empire*

Now for the HIGHLIGHTS:
-> Banner & Flag Making
(o.0) Flags? What flags? That was my first reaction when I saw the title of this activity. After asking this rather dumb-dumb question to the GL, I realised that it was the flag for the empire. Each empire is required to create their flag and this will represent them during the workshop. In other words, it’s their identity! Here, the freshies are able to showcase their creativity and their artistic talents.

*briefing for the banner & flag making*

*hmm....what will best represents us*

*hard at work*

*venos empire*

*eh...make sure his hair is coloured properly*

-> Games
Everyone play games during orientation. They are used as ice breakers, to bond everyone in the group together, teach the participants about teamwork and the importance of communication. So what makes TP’s games special, different and more fun from others? *silence*

Okay…the reason is that our games are not the usual boring
icebreakers which everyone has played before in any other normal, boring orientation. In TP, we add a twist to all the games and it involves loads of running around from one destination to another (outside or within school). Now you might ask: ‘why does it involve running all over the place?’ Well, the reason is that this is to enable the freshies to be familiar with the school surroundings and know all the hangouts that all TP students go to. (e.g.: A1 Chendol Bubble Tea Shop, Jupiter’s café etc) Not forgetting that TP has always been big on cheering, it really gets everyone into the mood. Plus, wouldn’t it be boring if everyone was staying in the same spot for the whole entire day playing games? So enough of me talking and let the pictures do it for me! :)

-> Performance Night
I was too busy laughing during this segment that I’ve forgotten to take the pictures. However, I have some videos here that will explain. Enjoy (:

-> Final Clash
Woo-hoo! This was the highlight of all the highlights. Everyone got wet and there was chaos. Final clash works like this: each empire will have a representative holding a lollipop made of newspaper. The attacking teams will ‘attack’ the lollipop by throwing water bombs at it. The state of the lollipop will determine the wining empire. Thankfully, I was not the photographer for this…Frayon was. *hahahahaha* and he was standing behind the lollipop. *hahahahahahahahaha* Just watch the picture slideshow to know what had happened during the clash.

*boo-hoo* You've come to the end of the highlights. So for those of you kicking youselves now for not joining FOW and had missed all the fun, fear not! You can join as GLs next year and to potential freshies....YOU HAVE TO JOIN FOW & FOC!!!!!!
