East View Secondary School Science Week Workshops 24th and 25th March

First up, let's take a look at what Temasek Engineering School had in store for them. The students were introduced to the Diploma in Interactive Media Technology (IMT) and the Diploma Media and Communication Technology (MET) where they got to experience 3D applications... hands-on!
The highlight of the day was the Interactive Digital Centre Asia (IDC Asia) where they get to play with the latest 3D graphics. Interested in what 3D graphics can do? Take a look at the ICube below!
One moment they find themselves flying in the MRT.

The train station looks real, but it's FAKE .

Trying out the head controller.
The white shades.
And the next, it's Touchdown in the UNIVERSE guys!

Exploring the orbit.

Woah! The Sun is so close.
SPECTACULAR! We were in the same room all along. This Icube practically brings you to another world once you put on the white shades. Using flat images and current technology, it allows you to visualise places even without running all the way there. This reminds me of the recent Mac tv ad on their internet delivery. Way Cool!
But that's not all. They even have a Touchlight which allows you to FEEL and SENSE without TOUCHING the screen at all.. Take a look at the short video clip below
Impressive. It helps us to conceptualise devices which do not even exist. You can feel the product even before making it. Any future 3D developers out there?
Now movinng on to the next stop: Temasek Applied Science School
DIY seems to be the fad now. From accessories, clothes to decorations of room and all. Ever thought of doing something new? Imagine telling someone you are in the soap-making business, making soap by recycling used cooking oil. Yes, that's right. COOKING OIL.
Basically, just pour the mixture into the mould and it will turn out like this.

The finished soap!
To top it off, the chemicals used for doing this are basically very simple, NaOH and KOH and loads of used cooking oil. Equipment can also be found in your school labs easily, really. The best part is, since you are recycling used cooking oil, cost of making the soap are very low! This will definitely make the perfect gift for your mum. I am sure they would be more than glad to drown you out with their used cooking oil. HAHA
And more pictures to go.
Getting ready for their first lab session in Temasek Polytechnic.

Putting on their lab outfits.

Waiting for the stirrer to finish its job.
What does the thermometer read?

The girls posing in the lab!
The students were really satisfied and proud of the soap they made with their own hands, leaving the lab with their creations. Cooking oil gets turned into soap? Goddness, My mum is going to flip over this.
Better keep this video from her lest she tries her luck at home. haha
Oh ya. Grab those photos taken here people! If you have any to upload, feel free to email us at tp4me08@gmail.com We want them too!
Till then, adios!
